Overview

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) is the premier not-for-profit membership organization dedicated to improve the lives of all people seeking obstetric and gynecologic care, their families, and communities. ACOG is currently seeking a Chief Health Equity, Quality and Diversity Officer.

 

The Chief Health Equity, Quality and Diversity Officer is responsible for providing operational and strategic oversight across the organization to ensure equity, diversity, and inclusion, as well as concepts of health equity, are in are integrated into organizational programs, services, activities, and teams. Ensure that all aspects of ACOG’s work addresses diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence, in collaboration with ACOG staff, The Board of Directors, District and Section leadership, and external ACOG partners. Lead the development of strategies to improve access to and care for marginalized people and those from communities with unmet needs seeking obstetrics and gynecologic care. Provide structure, leadership, guidance and collaboration to ongoing and newly created health equity, diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence efforts. Be a nexus for innovative and collaborative efforts, to achieve the goal of enhancing diversity and inclusive excellence and eliminating inequities in healthcare and healthcare outcomes. Health equity is not achievable without high quality care and high-quality care is not possible without equity, this role may additionally lead and support patient safety and quality improvement initiatives for obstetric and gynecologic care.

Responsibilities

• Research, develop, recommend, and execute creative strategies to foster equity, inclusion, and antiracism across all membership categories and activities.
• Lead and develop ACOG’s initiatives related to the Collective Action Against Racism, including collaborating with and managing relationship with external consultants, managing internal ACOG team on programmatic and content work, and strategically coordinating and fostering relationships with external stakeholders to advance a collaborative approach to the Collective Action Against Racism.
• Provide clinical leadership and support to the Voluntary Review of Quality of Care (VRQC) which helps ensure hospitals and health systems we partner with stay at the forefront of patient quality and safety standards.
• Provide support and oversight to the Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM) Technical Assistance Center to continue expansion and quality improvement implementation strategies.
• Review policies and procedures applicable to member activities and processes, assessing and analyzing the extent to which they hinder or support equity and inclusion across our entire continuum of membership. Make recommendations for continued improvement.
• Collaborate across the organization to assist other divisions ensuring that equity and inclusion are woven into every project and product of ACOG.
• Participate in meetings offering guidance, feedback, and document review, and serve as a conduit between member work groups/committees to help drive inclusion and equity efforts from concept to implementation.
• Develop the implementation plan for the DEIE Workgroup recommendations adopted by the Board of Directors and lead the implementation of that plan.
• Serve as ACOG’s subject matter expert to address member questions, concerns, and requests related to diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence in collaboration with the Membership, Marketing and Communications teams.
• Work with Government Affairs and Legal teams to ensure issues related to equity are centered in advocacy efforts.
• Develop and oversee Diversity, Equity, and Inclusive Excellence webpage on the ACOG website, including leading a team to generate creation of original content.
• Represent the organization externally, including as a spokesperson in matters related to diversity,
equity and inclusion and health equity and other matters as requested.
• Champion internal support for workplace diversity efforts at ACOG through consultation with Human Resource department
• Contribute to and review documents, statements, policies, practice advisories, guidance, patient education and other ACOG related materials to ensure ACOG’s commitment to equity and inclusion is effectively reflected.
• Oversee national grants, cooperative agreements and private funding initiatives focused on diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence.
• Foster relationships with national, state, and local healthcare organizations to drive health equity initiatives.
• Develop programs to support ACOG’s mission on patient safety and quality improvement programs.
• Establish clear metrics and analyze data to identify gaps and opportunities to advance ACOG diversity and equity goals.
• Responsible for the oversight of ACOG member-based committees focused on diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence.
• Offer strategic, evidence-based guidance to ACOG leadership on issues related to health equity, and anti-racism.
• Serve as an ambassador developing and maintaining relationships with ACOG members, ACOG Districts and Sections, government and other agencies, and other relevant organizations, within and external to the medical community on issues related to ACOG’s work in diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence.
• Monitor and manage financial budget related to areas of responsibility.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Active member of ACOG in good standing.
• MD or DO Degree and Board-Certified Obstetrics and Gynecology.
• 15 years of relevant experience, including 10 years of experience in leading complex projects and managing cross-functional teams.
• 8 years of supervisory experience required. To include holding people accountable, resolving conflicts, active participation in annual performance evaluations and providing professional development opportunities.
• Must have budget management experience.
• Experience working collaboratively and leading through influence.
• Experience working in an environment serving marginalized patients, either through direct care or through programs.
• Involvement with ACOG at the section, district or national level is preferred.
• Experience in strategic planning and execution, process improvement, program budgeting and fiscal management.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and listening skills. A bridge builder who can develop relationships and build trust and credibility with a diverse set of stakeholders.
• Ability to travel as needed.
